Jim Carrey developing comedy for HBO
Jim Carrey is going to revisit his comic days in L.A. comedy clubs by co-creating and exec producing a half hour project for HBO.
The Grammy-nominated American stand-up comedian Lisa Lampanelli (nominated for - "Dirty Girl") is attached to star in this project. The untitled story revolves around a woman who inherits a comedy club in Los Angeles. Scribe Kario Salem will write the teleplay. The story is in its initial stages.
The central character is a Mitzi Shore type, a woman who unexpectedly becomes the owner of a comedy club and is forced to play a maternal role in the dysfunctional lives of the club's clutch of resident comics.
Carrey was in the late 1970s and early 1980s part of the influential wave of comics who got big career boosts by performing at Shore's famed Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip.

This is probably a dumb question....
What is HBO, is it like a separate server?
Like Google?
But caters to certain people?

More news about the HBO Sitcom. In a new interview Lisa Lampanelli tells more about it.
"It took us about a year to find the right writer and the network - HBO and Showtime said they both wanted it," she says. "Who's not going to want a show with Jim Carrey overseeing it?"
In it, Lampanelli plays herself, but as a comic "in the position I was in three years ago, just short of making it." Many of her character's traits are like her own. "There are tons of awful men, there are awful codependence and food issues." But there is a twist: "She inherits a comedy club in L.A.," she says. "The inmate takes over the asylum."
Sort of sounds like Pauly Shore's short lived reality series, "Minding the Store," in which he takes over his parents' comedy club. But, Lampanelli points out, "This one has someone in it who's talented."
It's more than straight comedy, though. "It's a dramedy, like 'The Sopranos.' Very dark. The first scene, you think it's a mob hit. There's hardcore violence and sex is big. It has a 'Rescue Me' type of tone."
It's not without its challenges. "To play yourself the hardest part," she says. "You're so self conscious about your biggest problems."
The pilot will be shot in the beginning of 2009. Looks very interesting. Lets hope the pilot will work when they are ready to make it.
