Jim Carrey Officially Set to Star in The Jetsons!

Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that a live-action The Jetsons movie is moving forward and, most excitingly, Jim Carrey is set to star!
The news marks another fun addition to Jim’s long history of bringing larger-than-life and animated characters to the big screen. From The Mask and the Grinch in How the Grinch Stole Christmas to Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, Jim has always had a natural ability to turn cartoon-inspired characters into memorable live-action performances. Now, he looks ready to take on another iconic animated world.
Reports first surfaced in 2025 (read our article) that Jim was being considered for the role of George Jetson, the lovable and often overwhelmed patriarch of the futuristic Jetson family. Warner Bros. has now confirmed that the project is moving forward with Jim Carrey attached to star.
While details about his exact role and the story are still being kept under wraps, the possibility of seeing Jim as George Jetson is already incredibly exciting. George’s everyday struggles with work, family and the sometimes chaotic technology of the future could be a perfect playground for Jim’s unique brand of physical comedy and expressive performance.
Created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, The Jetsons first premiered in 1962. Set in the futuristic year 2062, the animated sitcom introduced audiences to a world of flying cars, robots, futuristic gadgets and all kinds of technological conveniences. At the center of the series was George Jetson, alongside his wife Jane, teenage daughter Judy, son Elroy, their dog Astro and the unforgettable robot maid Rosie. Although the original series initially ran for just one season, The Jetsons became a beloved part of pop culture. New episodes were produced in the 1980s, followed by the animated theatrical movie Jetsons: The Movie in 1990.
A live-action adaptation has been discussed and attempted in various forms for decades, making Warner Bros.’ latest announcement particularly exciting. For Jim Carrey fans, the project is also another sign that there are still plenty of big-screen adventures ahead. Following his return as Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic franchise, Jim continues to find new ways to surprise audiences.
The Jetsons movie is expected to arrive after 2027, although an official release date has not yet been announced. More details about the director, screenplay and supporting cast are expected as development continues. For now, we can simply say: Jim Carrey as George Jetson? We can definitely see it!
