How the Grinch Stole Christmas Returns to Theaters for Its 25th Anniversary
12 Nov 2025

Jim Carrey’s Dr. Seuss’ "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is officially returning to theaters for its 25th anniversary this December!

The 2000 holiday classic, directed by Ron Howard and starring the unstoppable Jim Carrey in one of his most transformative and beloved roles, will hit theaters once again on December 12, 2025. Just in time to make your heart grow three sizes this holiday season.

Fans can grab tickets now for this special anniversary celebration — and yes, there’s even a brand-new trailer teasing the Grinch’s grand return to the big screen.

When the film first hit theaters, it wasn’t just a Christmas hit — it was a phenomenon. The Grinch raked in nearly $350 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing movie of 2000 in the U.S. and holding the title of second-highest-grossing holiday film of all time for nearly two decades (until 2018’s animated The Grinch took the top spot).

Jim’s electric, rubber-faced performance as the misanthropic green recluse remains a masterclass in physical comedy and emotional depth — a perfect blend of manic humor and unexpected heart. His transformation (literally and figuratively) even earned him a Golden Globe nomination, while the film snagged an Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

The cast also featured a stellar lineup, including Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, Bill Irwin, Molly Shannon, and a then-young Taylor Momsen as Cindy Lou Who — the little Who who helped melt the Grinch’s icy heart.

Fun new moment for fans: Just last weekend, Jim Carrey and Taylor Momsen reunited on stage at the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, where they both helped honor Soundgarden. Seeing the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who together again after 25 years had fans buzzing — and it couldn’t have come at a more perfect time with this big-screen re-release around the corner.

So dust off your Santa hat, crank up “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” and get ready to relive the magic (and mischief) that only Jim Carrey can bring.
