Behind the Scenes: Sonic Characters Start as Puppets?!

Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are the heart of all the Sonic franchise movies. The actors behind their voices—Ben Schwartz, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, and Idris Elba—bring so much personality and energy to these iconic characters, but they still need to be done in CGI.
While working with CGI characters can be tricky, director Jeff Fowler found a clever solution to help the actors connect more authentically with their on-screen counterparts. Instead of relying on the usual method of interacting with a tennis ball or blank space, Fowler introduced puppets—life-sized versions of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles.
According to everyone, it helps set the scene ad make it more real.
