Majestic expectations

Postby Pet Detective » Mon Aug 06, 2001 8:30 pm

Ookay, as we're all counting the days to the Majestic opening - and what a cool countdown you made there Mon! - I am asking myself what kind of expectations there are.

No question, this movie will be different in quite a few ways. As good as no comic elements in it, a heart-melting plot, a dramatic, even political background ...

What do you expect from this movie? Will it change Jim Carrey's career? And will it affect the way you see him?

Dana, who to most was more a psycho than a therapist

Well, as far as what I expect of the movie I am not sure. I am just looking forward to it as I look forward to all his movies. I do also like to see him dramatic and I think this film will help his career a lot as far as crossing over to the dramatic side which I personally think he has already done in The Truman Show and Man on the Moon and even in Doing Time on Maple Drive. But some people have yet to be convinced of him as a good dramatic actor and I think and hope that this film will convince those people. I also think that more people will see a different side of him. The side we as Carrey fans have been seeing forever. I think more women might look at him as being more attractive just based on the role he is playing. It might help increase his status as a sex symbol. I have always thought he was the sexiest most attractive actor there is and I am so sick of people always saying that stars like Tom Cruise and George Clooney and Harrison Ford, etc. are sexy. They always make those most beautiful lists and stuff and Jim hardly ever makes them and I think a lot of that has to do with his starting out as a comedian and I don't think that is fair. People don't even realize how good looking he is because they just look at him and think funny and he's much more then that and I hope and think this film will help non Jim fans see him in a new light. That is probably my biggest expectation and it doesn't even have to do with the film itself. I already know that is going to be great because Jim never disappoints. At least for me he doesn't!

Melanie

I don't expect anything else except being blown away by Jim's performance I think everyone will come to acknowledge and respect him as a true actor after "The Majestic" comes out.

Can't wait for the trailer!

*TaKe KaRe NoW |

| BuH ~ BYe THeN*

Heyyyy everyone....I'm back!! **silence**

Just wanted to say that I have never been so excited about a Jim Carrey film before and that's saying something! I feel a certain sense of perfection about this movie - the cast, the director, the storyline, the location - perfect ingredients for a dish I can't wait to try...

My only worry is the release date - Lord of the Rings is premiering around the same date, yet it has and invariably will continue to garner much more hype, publicity and public interest than Jim's latest offering.

I know it will be a superb film and will cement Jim's reputation as all-round versatile actor but I can't help thinking that it could do with a little less competition so it doesn't end up being trampled to death. So as much as I wouldn't want to wait even longer for it, a slight delay could work wonders.

Chrissie

PS. Dana, I'm still alive, more from me later...

Yeah, I have to say Lord of the Rings has got me worried too. But instead of pushing the release date back I'd rather they push it up a month. Then we could see it sooner. But they would never do that. I personally don't see what's so great about Lord of the Rings anyway. It's not my kind of movie. Maybe it won't be that much of a threat. I just hope they don't open on the same day. When does Lord of the Rings open anyway?

Melanie

LOTR opens on December 19 in the US.
I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm quite looking forward to it simply because I've been trying to read the whole LOTR trilogy but never seem to make it past Book 2!

Even if the Majectic does the scenario 3, I'd sure I could still find something to rant about

I'll tell ya what: Wigs!! Small wigs, long wigs, blonde wigs, black wigs, brown wigs, curly wigs, straight wigs, oh, I can just imagine it!! Um... ah-hem... not really. Well, I expect a movie where Jim Carrey will show the most reticent critic that he can tackle the serious business just as well as the funny. It is true that it's nothing new since he's done that with Man On The Moon, The Truman Show and with Maple Drive, but people seem to take a while to accept it.

I expect to feel moved by Jim's character and by Martin Landau's Harry. I expect that Laurie Holden has great on screen chemistry with Jim. I expect that Frank Darabont has accurately captured the wonderful 50's ambiance, and the "magic" that must inhabit the Majestic. I expect smokin' boogie tunes on the soundtrack, and of course to see Jim Carrey playing some cool piano riffs. I expect that the popcorn won't be stale when I go see it and that there won't be any idiots laughing out loud in all the wrong places, because they somehow got convinced this is Ace Ventura 3.

You think I'm perhaps setting my expectations too high?

Mon

"I can't stay in one place for very long. From Variety:

Postby Crumble74 » Fri Aug 10, 2001 6:32 am

"[...] On Dec. 7, for example, Sony's "Ali,'' starring Smith, opens against Warner Bros.' "Ocean's Eleven.'' On Dec. 21, the pivotal Friday before Christmas, Miramax pits DiCaprio vehicle "Gangs of New York'' against WB's Jim Carrey comedy "The Majestic.''

Christmas Day will see the entry of five significant titles. And we haven't even mentioned "Harry Potter''. Or "Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring.'' Or "Vanilla Sky.'' Or ... well, you get the idea.

The carnage can be spectacular at the end of the year. [...]"

Chrissie

Good of you to point that out, Chrissie (BIG competition ). Now that we know what Jimmy's up against, let's all hope that "The Majestic" pulls a "Truman"

*TaKe KaRe NoW |

| BuH ~ BYe THeN*

Now AICN can't wait

Postby SA JCFan » Tue Aug 14, 2001 5:38 am

Lol, this too funny. Ain't-It-Cool-News finally got to see the one sheet poster of "Sand Pirates of the Sahara" (which has been here at JCO for a long time). Now some AICN backtalkers can't wait to see the movie either

*TaKe KaRe NoW |

| BuH ~ BYe THeN*
