WHAT is that Jimmy Hoffa- thing?

Postby Riddler » Tue Sep 28, 2004 2:57 pm

I mean, when I saw Ace Ventura Pet Detective there was a part where Ace and that other guy was talking something like " We´ll find Snowflake before they´ll find Jimmy Hoffa"
Then in Bruce Almighty when the police dog Hank found a body near that training center of police dogs, Bruce says something like that Hank found a body of Jimmy Hoffa.
Yesterday they showed here The Nutty Professor-movie starring Eddie Murphy.
There was a scene when professor Klump and Ms. Purty were in restaurant called Scream and there was a stand-up comedian on the stage and when Klump sticked out his behind to stage, that stand up comedian said something like " Now I know where they´ve hided Jimmy Hoffa!"

So, WHAT is that thing? Is it just some joke which won´t open up to foreigners or is it based on reality somehow? I mean, is there been a guy called Jimmy Hoffa who is still missing or is it really just a joke?
I´m just curious.

Jimmy Hoffa was a guy that disappeared in 1975, no one knows what happenned to him, people think he was killed by the Mafia because he had ties to crime, he's presummed dead though cuz no one ever found his body, he's a big name of the past though, if you mention his name, people know who he is. I heard though like a year or more ago that they found clues to his death inside an apartment but who really knows cuz they've been saying that for years. Look up his name on Google or Yahoo and you can find some info about him ;)

Thanks JT. Just that I wanted to know that is there really been a guy named Jimmy Hoffa or is it only some kind of Tom Shadyac´s joke. ( Noticed that he had directed The Nutty Professor too)

hahaha. I didn't even catch that Jimmy Hoffa stuff. lol. I didn't know what they were talking about and I would have had the same questions if I had looked into it too. Thanks for clarifying, JT!

Yep, I've noticed those references in Jim's flicks.

****

Hoffa: The Movie http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0104427/combined

JIMMY HOFFA • Union Leader

Hoffa was the powerful and controversial leader of the Teamsters Union from 1957 to 1971. Often alleged to have ties to organized crime, Hoffa was finally convicted of fraud and jury tampering in 1964 and served four years in prison before his sentence was commuted by President Nixon. In 1975, while trying to regain power in the union, Hoffa disappeared from a restaurant parking lot in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He was widely assumed to have been killed by the Mafia. His body was never found, and in 1983 he was declared legally dead. In September of 2001, news reports claimed that DNA tests by the FBI had tied Hoffa to a car driven by his associate Charles O'Brien the day Hoffa disappeared -- suggesting that charges might still be brought in the case.

Extra credit: Hoffa's son, James, became president of the Teamsters in the 1990s... Both Robert Blake and Jack Nicholson have portrayed Hoffa on the screen.

Hoffy's

Postby Canadian Jayne » Thu Sep 30, 2004 4:47 pm

There's a campground up north in Ontario
called Hoffy's Campground
I always wondered if he escaped to Canada?
Who knows, only the person who did him in or Hoffa himself.

I will genuflect in your presence your Highness! =D>

I, myself have been called Queen but it is usually followed by "bitch."
(I am a huge David Bowie fan and "Queen Bitch" is one of my favorite songs. My co-workers jokingly started calling me this as I am just the opposite. At least I hope that's why! )
