"The Ruckus That Day" - A Story Inspired by Dr. Seuss

Postby JimChangedMe » Sun Mar 04, 2012 8:36 pm

A short time ago and a short time away

Lived a short little boy who did not want to play

With the other silly little girls and boys

He had no need for friends, he had no need for toys

For even though his family lived by "seize the day!"

Nothing could move the boy to go out and play

One day, he sat in shadows surrounded by gloom

Hardly ever sunlight in this little boy's room

When a noise of the sort zipped straight through his ears

A sound never heard in his short little years

The boy stood up and thought, "A sound?

How can there be sound when there's no one around?

It can't be mother or father, it's noon!

It must be a creature, a dog or raccoon

Or even the madman, Dr. Grezinglgazoon

The chance of a spy or some idiot goon.

Whatever this is, animal or buffoon

I must get it out of my house very soon!"

Without a minute or second to lose

The boy zipped down the stairs in his fast little shoes

Peeked through the kitchen door and frowned

The source of the sound nowhere to be found

So he zipped through it all, living, bath, and TV rooms

Nothing of interest to create snaps or booms

He even checked the basement in the ground

But just puzzled even more; no such noise around

So the boy became tired and walked back to his room

Feeling twice as much helpless with twice as much gloom

Until he heard something of such tiny mass

A soft little tap on his small window glass

Followed by another, and another, and so many more

The boy almost made a dash for the door!

"WHAT DO YOU WANT, I AM ONLY A BOY

I DON'T HAVE MONEY OR EVEN A TOY

OR FRIENDS TO RELY ON, OH HOW I CAN ONLY PRAY

TO LIVE ON TOMORROW, FOR JUST ONE MORE DAY

I WILL HAVE FUN IN THE SUN, HEAR WHAT I SAY

CEASE YOUR TAPPING AND PLEASE GO AWAY!"

Before the boy could break down and cry

Something on the window caught his small little eye

Along with the noise that stopped to say "Hi!"

Stood hand in hand with what fell from the sky

Raindrops, so small and so blue

Tapped on the window, a hundred or two

Followed by thunder of enormous height

A sound that shook the sky with it's might

And oh how one can remember the face of one boy

One that had no friends, not one little toy

Who lived in a gray little house with a gloomy style

The boy stared at the window and started to smile

No such creature, no such raccoon

No such monstrous goon or buffoon!

Only a storm, a storm from the sky

The boy laughed so hard, he started to cry

The howls were so cheerful, they echoed down the hall

Almost like magic, it started to fall

All the dumb glum that just made it all sad

It started to glow, it looked almost glad!

I bet you are wondering what happened to the boy with no friend

Well, I'm glad to say he made one the next day in the end

For they went to the toy shop down in the mall

Because the thought of a toy wasn't so bad after all
