Jim's way to fight depression!

Postby jimliker » Wed Mar 19, 2008 3:52 pm

“I’ve been seeing an acupuncturist. He told me that people would be much better off if they stopped thinking of food as entertainment. And I agree with that.

“Even Gandhi said that you cannot have happiness without controlling the palate.”

Carrey is also taking special anti-depressant supplements.

He says: “There is a whole new way of curing depression. I know the way out of depression. There are new treatments that are not being offered to people.

“The supplements I am taking are hydroxytryptophan and tyrosine, elements of the brain that are supposed to be there but that are short in a lot of people.

“You can actually create dopamine and serotonin.”

Those are naturally occurring chemicals which produce pleasurable feelings.

If you have too little serotonin or dopamine, you can feel depressed.

He says: “My doctor asked me how I got out of bed every morning because I had no dopamine and no serotonin in my brain.”

He reckons people need to work on their mental fitness in order to cope with negative feelings, saying: “You need to do some mental work.

“You need to get out of bed every day and say that life is good. “That’s what I did, although at times it was very difficult for me.

“Everybody has a certain amount of darkness in life — and I am not free of pain either. Today, though, I have a different perspective on it than I used to have. I have grown a lot spiritually and as a person over the last couple of years.”

“It’s OK to say to your kid, ‘Daddy is going to cry now’.

“I believe that it’s healthy to get mad at whoever you want to get mad at. There are ways to do that — wonderful fantasies without really acting them out.”
