From another site

"Jim Carrey has signed on the dotted line to play a married man who falls in love with and becomes obsessed with his prison cellmate.

I Love You Philip Morris is an indie comedy from the writers of Bad Santa, Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.

Carrey has reportedly taken a hefty pay cut to work on the project. He's currently a $20m-a-movie man and the budget for I Love You stands at $20m in total."

he'll be on a percentage..................but the backing company is owned by Luc Besson who is known for his seriously classy approach.......i doubt he would be backing it if it was a surefire Turkey Twizzler........lmao

OMG,
I am so overjoyed with this information.
I think it's cool that he's gonna play a gay guy in prison. It's very interesting and cool to watch.
He's doing it right - I mean that he signs up for that kind of thing. A new thing is always good because it's new. And it really doesn't matter if it works out (but of course, if it does - it's great) or not but eventually it's the Jim Movie and that says it all.
I like that he's full of different ideas. And I hope that he won't "fall out" of this movie. Like it was with the one that should've cast Cameron Diaz as well.
Gay movies are always interesting to watch.
So many thoughts come to mind...
And of course after it's released everyone will gossip about whether Jim is gay or not.
It's fun too. :)

Is it just me or does this sound more like a Drama than a Dark Comedy?

No need to worry about that, they got talent and can produce a solid script. If there is good Directing and Acting it should be fine.

the houdini from jails

Postby chip » Wed Jun 06, 2007 1:55 pm

Jim Carrey will play Steven Russell, who is real and is still alive, I wish Jim visit him at Jail to do what he did with Andy Kaufman (a perfect performance!). Here you have some of the amazing story of this con man, it´s really a film! and a very good one, and the perfect role for Jim:

"Over the years, Russell has had at least 14 known aliases. His every escape and escape attempt has happened on Friday 13 and during his escapes he has masqueraded as a judge, a physician and a handyman, to name only few. Russell might have impersonated a Boca Raton, Florida police officer in 1980 and 1981.

In May 21, 1993 Russell got out of Harris County Jail in Houston, Texas wearing civilian clothes he had obtained. Afterwards he fabricated bogus credentials and got a job as a CFO of North American Medical Management. He proceeded to embezzle thousands of dollars from the company. In 1995 he was eventually caught and imprisoned for insurance fraud and again placed into Harris County Jail where he met Phillip Morris, who became his lover.

In 1996 Russell escaped from Harris County Jail; he impersonated a judge and ordered his own bond decreased from $900,000 to the $45,000 that he easily met. He was arrested 10 days later in Florida and shipped back to Texas. Later the same year he colored a white prison uniform green, masqueraded as a prison doctor and walked out.

In 1998 he was again in the Harris County Jail serving a 45-year sentence for theft of $800,000 from a Houston company that manages physician's finances plus 20 years for a previous escape. In February 24 he persuaded a prison doctor that he had AIDS and had someone outside to authorize a special needs parole to Houston hospital - in March Friday 13. Later he got Phillip Morris transferred to the Dallas County Jail and tried to have him released - he even visited him masquerading as a lawyer.

In March 1998 Russell posed as a Virginian millionaire and on March 20 tried to take a $75,000 loan from NationsBank in Dallas. When bank officials got suspicious and alerted the police, Russell feigned a heart attack and was transported to a hospital. The FBI placed him under guard, but Russell managed to impersonate a FBI agent on the phone and state that he was no longer wanted. He disappeared."
