Grinch boycott

Postby JCOAdmin » Wed Sep 13, 2000 6:57 pm

Okay, folks, this is something that I've found on the Web and that I personally think it's a riot. However, because it deals with religious beliefs some may find it insulting. I sincerely hope not. Anyway, if you wish to take a look at it here's the address:

www.landoverbaptist.org/n...rinch.html

Monica

I have to admit, I've had a good laugh to last a month! This article is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read! It sounds more like a tabloid story than anything else! Actually, worse. And what's this about Jim almost being locked up for trying to convince people that there was really a man on the moon?...And they claim that he is playing his favorite character, Satan! Last I checked, he was playing a character called, the Grinch. They also refer to Jim as "that ex-mental patient and self-confessed lunatic." Where do they get stuff like this? It seems that they are the lunatics and should be locked up!

One more thing. At the top of the page containing the bogus article, I couldn't help but notice the following words on a banner: It states "Landover Baptist Church...Unsaved are NOT Welcome!" Huh? This is a bunch of bologna. The church (in general) should have it's doors wide open for anyone because it's one place where the unsaved can go to get saved.

What does everyone else think of this article?

Becky

This site has got to be some sort of joke -- I don't think I've ever seen anything this ridiculous in my life!!

I looked at the messageboard on that site, and its just as weird!! I think whoever did the site has WAY too much free time on their hands.

The mockup of the Grinch poster showing his hand holding the crucifix was really twisted too!

Nancy

Oh pleeeeaase, this article´s beyond ridiculous! It´s such absurd that I don´t think many people take it seriously, especially when they read the last part that says paying "only 200.00 $ a day" (!!) will save them. Cheap trick, does anyone buy this?! Sorry but whoever takes this seriously must have completely lost it.
This is not about religion or belief, it´s about profit.
Still I would like to know how many actually pay the demanded money. I guess there are always people who are willing to do whatever they are told to. If it makes them happy, let them pay.
As for Jim Carrey, I guess he would laugh at the article, yet being somewhat upset about it. Especially since he does believe in God and often expresses his respect for him. And regarding that "ex-mental patient", being treated for depression doesn´t make anyone a psycho! Nowadays, almost everybody is experiencing a depression sooner or later in life (myself included), so what?! Whoever wrote this article is paranoid and seriously disturbed and urgently needs therapy, so who is the real lunatic here?! Trivia quiz!

I'm quite familiar with the so-called "religious" site known as the Landover Baptist. Been a popular parody site for years. Suprised anybody would be taking them seriously. Especially when you see how over the top they are. GW Bush banners, Violent Bible quotes on T-shirts, etc. Gotta love the digitally added crucifix! LOL, funniest article since the "Jesus was Gother than You" site.

...and more LOL! I was going to reply exactly the same but considered the thread long dead. You just have to read the disclaimer at the bottom of the page - it says satire.

OH. MY. GOD. I can't stop laughing.
Okay. I'm a Christian. I spent 13 years of my young life attending a Baptist GARB school. (And look how much of it has rubbed off on me... Let's just say I wasn't popular.;-) )
Anyway, I think this site does make a point. Some "God-fearing" "Christians" take stuff WAY to far. They should focus on loving their neighbors, not beating them over the head with rules and regulations. Jim Carrey's flicks are just release mechanisms for raw human emotions. They're like therapy. They aren't "E-V-I-L" incarnate. If you don't liike them, then please, PLEASE don't whack others upsaide the head with your judgementalism. God gave everyone a FREE WILL. Use it.
Everyone has a nose - just be careful where you stick it in to.;-)

Hugz!
BC
