Spielberg drops Carrey

Postby grinchy steve » Wed Mar 31, 2004 2:50 pm

The Secret life of Walter Mitty...

It was supposed to be the first pairing of Steven Spielberg and Jim Carrey but the plans to team the two A-listers has gone sour with Spielberg leaving the production. Carrey remains attached despite Spielberg's departure and has the first option to star should a project come together that's to his liking. On the same note, he can drop out at any time. It's unclear exactly why Spielberg left the project but since it was originally announced that he and Carrey would pair, little movement was ever made on the project. It probably didn't help that the two both had busy schedules and MITTY wasn't fitting in anywhere in the near future. Once Spielberg left, he also took DreamWorks with him and now the project is set up through producer Samuel Goldwyn Jr. at Paramount. Coincidentally enough, Goldwyn's father produced the original 1947 film about a man with a wild imagination. Carrey is currently filming LEMONY SNICKET'S A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS and also has FUN WITH DICK AND JANE and THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN on the horizon. Spielberg has TERMINAL with Tom Hanks coming this Christmas and his next project is expected to be THE RIVALS about two dueling opera divas in the early 20th century.

To bad I really wanted to see the combination of Carrey and Spielberg, looked promissing!

Oh yeah, Carrey still hasn't left the project, he wants to see the final script first.

Edited by: grinchy steve at: 3/31/04 4:22 pm
