Jim Carrey as Marshall Applewhite/Do

For those of you who don't know, Marshall Applewhite AKA Do was the leader of a religious cult called Heaven's Gate which was a group of people that believed they were messengers of God and that aliens would come down to earth, take them into their spaceship, and provide them with new bodies. In 1997, he convinced his followers to commit a mass suicide because he himself believed that was the only way for them to "Ascend to the next level" and be united with the aliens. Diane Sawyer did a story about it on "20/20" last Friday night (which you can now view on Hulu) and after I watched it, my two main thoughts were:
1. Why hasn't this been made into a movie yet?
2. Can Jim Carrey play this guy?

The reason I think Mr. Carrey would be perfect casting is because this man is shown to be very charismatic and sweet but at the same time he was also described as not only delusional but very controlling as well and he has this haunting look in his eyes that makes you wanna look away but you can't and I think Jim can pull off all those qualities quite well. I HIGHLY recommend that you watch the "20/20" special on Hulu and please tell me what you think afterwards, the episode is titled "The Cult Next Door: The Mystery and Madness of Heaven's Gate".

I don’t doubt he could do it
But just the manipulating
Is down heartening
And we have enough
Of that going on
Right now in the news

People right now
need
Sonic 2

I checked out the Utube and News
But HBO was
Doing a
DocuSeries on it
I remember hearing about it in
The news in 1997
Weird thing is
Why did they feel they couldn’t
Do anything about it
When I see the videos it
Gives me the feeling that
The people were given the
Feeling of family and that they
Belonged together
39 lives Sooooo Crazy

Yes it was and since you saw that entire docuseries and know practically the whole story, do you still think Jim could play him in a movie someday?

I didn’t see all
Docuseries
Just a few excerpts
I don’t believe in giving
Too much attention to
Evil or bad influencers
I love stories of the
Underdog
The man against all odds
Like
Iron Will or
Dirty Dozen even tho
Men in dirty dozen weren’t especially all good men
They did things differently and their main goal was
What was needed at the time
They worked with what they had

Have you seen
The Dirty Dozen movie?
It’s about a group of men chosen in WW2
Most were misfits and in jail
Before being recruited for a special mission
They knew they’d probably die doing it
But they kept on kept on
Lee Marvin played the Leader
Only one of the dozen
Survived in the movie
“They”meaning
They’re own smarts
And ability to
Work together or alone

Or
Filthy Farmers Dozen

Applewhite story
Is
Interesting
But extremely sad
Reminds me of how easily
People are scammed today
Only with Applegate
Perhaps he truly
Felt he was
Right or
Wanted an excuse to be
With his partner
Only he convinced
Others to
Believe it too
I wonder what he would say
When he got to the other side
“Oopsey, I guess I got that one wrong?”
Can U imagine being shown
The 38 lives that could have been different
What would have changed if those
38 went on to live
I wonder
