Pretty much the same but people don't just do it for erotic pleasure they do it for fun or just normal pleasure. The pain doesn't have to be done physically it can be done emotionally. It can be done in many different ways not just by whips and chains. Hilter for example had a sadist disorder he didn't just whip people, he killed people he became a mass murderer. He didn't kill and cause pain for erotic pleasure he did it for fun.
