Carrey felt affinity with penguins

"There's just an undeniable energy about them that's pure and spontaneous and they're oddballs of nature," Jim explained.
"They don't really belong in water or on land, they don't fly, what do they do? They're kind of odd and out of place and that's how I feel a lot of the time but we make the best of it."
"It was the soul of it," Jim explained. "Frankly I had people in my camp going 'Really? You want to do a penguin movie?' but I love penguins, what could I do? I gotta follow that spirit!"
