Jim Carrey has admitted he was daunted about playing the lead role in Yes Man.
The actor was a fan of the 2005 biographical book by Danny Wallace, and said he wanted to keep the standards high.
He said: "It's a lot to live up to I must say. I wasn't trying to be Danny Wallace in any way, but I loved the concept and I love his guts."
But director Peyton Reed said he had no doubts about casting Jim in the movie, about a man who must say "yes" to everything.
"Jim was sort of attached. He had read the book and been very involved from the beginning so we were very in synch," he said.
"The core idea of Danny's book was so strong and so positive and with Jim involved you could see the real comic opportunities, so it was sort of a no-brainer for me."
However, co-star Zooey Deschanel admitted she wasn't familiar with the book.
"I feel embarrassed, but I actually hadn't read it before the movie," she confessed. "But he (Danny) is wonderful."
