Interesting choices.
I'm not necessarily a fan of
Mark Ruffalo, but there is absolutely no denying he's a solid actor ... in serious movies. When he's in a comedy, it doesn't work for me. Timing is the most important thing in comedy, that's not his thing. It works when the comedy is coming from the situation (Avengers), not when it has to come from him. Not a fan of this choice, so far. Doesn't feel right.
Cate Blanchett, she's a chameleon. In everything she does she is amazing. Hard to imagine her in a quirky comedy, but it worked in "Bandits" and "Life Aquatic", so yeah, I wouldn't mind her at all.
Naomi Watts, great actress also. She did very well in "I Heart Huckabees" and she was very amusing when she had to be in "King Kong" also. It's the same reason I think of
Rachel Weisz who proved with "About a Boy", "The Mummy" and "The Brothers Bloom" that she's able to do anything. And ofcours,
Kate Winslet. Is there something she can't? She's fantastic.
Any of them would be great. None of them fit the ages that were mentioned before. As for the friend, I will stick with
John Krasinski. And someone who fits him?
Amy Adams, she's the most natural actress of her generation and there's nothing she can't pull off.
